Untraceable Review

Journal Entry: Sun Nov 9, 2008, 1:10 PM

Not a real review but whatever.. XD
Many people of you recommended me the movie "Untraceable" since I asked for good horror movies.
Well, Untraceable seemed to be good. I liked the atmopshere and also the idea (since it's a little bit SAW-like) but then the stuff with the cat happend...
And I wasn't able to see the whole movie. In fact I just fast forwarded it and watched some scenes.

I really don't like movies in which animals die :/ I also watched "P2". I realld didn't like the movie since I thought it's quite boring and then she killed the watching dog. Yeah I know, she defended herself and trust me, if I'd be on the run from a psycho killer and his dog attacks me I'd also hit the dog but honestly.. was that scene necessary?
Especially when animals die by such a cruel way like the cat in Untraceable did :hmm:

The scene really broke my heart a little. I KNOW it wasn't real and all but I grew up with cats and have a very thick bond to them. So such scenes always hurt me.

Too bad. Because the movie seemes to be interesting. But I had the cat scene in my mind the whole evening yesterday. I'm really sensitive regarding this...

Oh dear, don't watch American Psycho then.
My friend and I (also a vet student) were more upset by the death of a dog and the near death of a cat than countless prostitutes. So I know how you feel ^^;

i know exactly how you feel.
i watch a show called ghost whisperer and in one episode a cat was killed and i could barley watch the rest. I hate it when things like that happen in movies.
and if you don't mind me asking.. what happened to the cat exactly

Sad... I have yet to watch that movie so I'm glad I haven't seen it yet.

I'd suggest The Happening. I really liked it despite how weird it is I found it oddly fascinating. Also its not exactly 'horror' but more a less Sci-Fi.

I just find it funny how people don't seem to give a shit when a human dies in such a way but can't watch a movie when an animal dies in the same way.

It really does make me question our sensibility when it comes to emotions.

Mind you, whenever I see animals get slaughtered in movies or games it's difficult for me ( X3 to the point I have trouble killing birds in WoW ... ffs ) but ... hmm ... it does make me worry about our values ... it really does.
And before anyone starts saying it's because of the intelligence of the animals and their innocence ... I doubt you'd be as upset about a kid getting killed like this when it was just a random movie character with no background.

I completely understand what you are saying, and I agree with your points. However, cruel death scenes of animals in movies usually not always, but usually) bother me more than those of humans, and here is the reason: I worked at a veterinary clinic for three years, and during that time, I saw many horrible instances of animal cruelty, some ending in the painful death of the animal. Yes, some people are murdered in real life, but it's extremely uncommon (due to the consequences) and most people outside of the medical field or law enforcement have absolutely no experience with it. So, when it is seen in a movie, you know that it is not really happening, and it takes on a sort of surreal quality. I, and probably quite a few other people, have actually seen instances of serious animal cruelty, so it tends to connect with a part of us that goes "this is real and this is terrible," even if it is only a movie.

Yeah, it's still a major failure of logic, though.

Consider the daffodil. And while you’re doing that, I’ll be over here, looking through your stuff.

I don't like it when animals die either. ;^; This is why I couldn't watch or read "Cujo". Did I suggest that one to you? If I did, forget it. It's 1000 times more sad than "Old Yeller" in my opinion.

I was easily occupied with The German Shepard from I Am Legend for weeks.. I've never taken much interest in horror movies where the protagonists are defenseless or stupid, but They do seem to have a wide audiance.
